FAQ
How do I know how much gel to squeeze?
Generally, about 1/4 pea size per tooth (2mm diameter), and only on the front of the teeth that are visible when you smile. You should have a small amount of excess gel when you put the trays in. If you don’t have any excess, you may need more next time. If you have too much oozing out, then definitely less. You don’t need to place gel on your back teeth where no one can see them!
While your mileage may vary, with proper application, the two syringes provided should last most people 2 weeks of daily use.
I have sensitive teeth - what should I do?
First, make sure we have checked that you don’t have any cavities, cracks or leaking fillings. Once that has been cleared, give these suggestions a go:
Switch your regular toothpaste for sensitive toothpaste (there are some included in your starter kit)
When you are not whitening, squeeze some sensitive toothpaste into the tray and leave them on for 30-60 minutes, as frequently as you can
Use less than the recommended amount of gel to avoid contact with your gum (this may cause less than ideal results however)
Instead of whitening every day, slow it down to every alternate day (you may need to whiten for longer as a result)
Take some panadol or nurofen as per manufacturers’ instruction when needed
Can I whiten for shorter or longer than two weeks?
Absolutely! The beauty of this system is that it is completely within your control. The recommended average is 14 consecutive days. If you are satisfied after 7 days, feel free to stop and keep the rest of the gel for future top ups. If you have more stubborn stains, feel free to continue beyond 14 days, you may just need to purchase refills. You can whiten up to 8 weeks before checking in with us for a review.
How do I look after my trays?
After each use, rinse them with cold water and brush the inside and outside with your regular toothbrush. Let it air dry in the container provided. Do not use hot or boiling water to clean them as this may distort the trays. With proper care, the trays should last a long time, only needing to be replaced if you wear them thin, or if you have new dental work and they don’t fit well anymore.
How can I get the best results?
Avoid eating, drinking, and smoking during treatment.
Do not smoke immediately after treatment - wait for at least two hours
What food or drinks can I have when whitening?
For best results, avoid any food or drinks that has dark or intense colouring. While it is impossible to have an exhaustive list, here are common foods and drinks to avoid:
coffee
tea
soft drinks
turmeric
sports drinks with bright colors
beetroot
curries
tomato based sauces
Generally if a food will stain a white shirt, then avoid it as much as you can.
Foods and drinks containing strong colours should be avoided for at least 48 hours after the treatment period or consumed in moderation.
What do I do with my leftover gel?
Always store your whitening gel in the refrigerator when not in use (between 2°-25° C). Heat reduces its effectiveness and makes your teeth more sensitive.
You may store any leftover gel for future top ups until its expiry date labeled on the syringe.
Why do I have uneven color on my teeth?
Due to the unique make up and anatomy of everyone’s teeth, your results may differ to the next person’s. The areas near the gum line, especially the eye teeth, tend to be slightly darker than the rest of your teeth, because of the thinner enamel in these regions. You may sometimes notice that your bottom teeth don’t whiten as quickly as your top teeth. If so, you may continue whitening the bottom teeth for an additional week.
In people with a history of fluorosis, their teeth sometimes develop white spots or appear chalky. This is normal and usually settles down a week or two after whitening is finished.
I have finished whitening and love it! How do I keep it like this forever?!
Congratulations and we are so pleased! Just like most things in life, whitening does not last forever. You can maintain them by avoiding dark or colored foods as much as possible, and maintaining very good brushing habits. We can help you by removing superficial stains on your teeth during your check up and cleans with us. If you do any top up whitening at home, getting a professional clean first will allow the whitening gel to penetrate your teeth more efficiently, giving you better results
Good luck with your whitening journey and we are so excited to see the results! As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
